BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The final touches on a patriotic mural at the Elks Lodge are being made today.
The mural has scenes from World War II to Afghanistan.
The mural artist is 71-year-old Patti Doolitte; Doolittle is known for several murals around Bakersfield.
According to the Californian, Doolittle has been a part of Elks Lodge for more than ten years. Her husband, John, is the Exalted Ruler--which is like a president--and has been in the group for more than 40 years.
The Californian reported that John and other members of the group thought it would be a good idea to add something permanent in the building that represented all military branches, especially since Friday is Flag Day.
Doolittle's military mural will be inside the Elks Lodge near Garces Memorial Circle.
The Elks Lodge is a fraternal organization that does charitable and local events to support community and veterans.
