BAKERSFIELD - A two-alarm fire completely ripped through two southeast Bakersfield homes and officials say they will both have to be demolished.  The fire started at 7 p.m. Friday at 917 Dolores Street.

Bakersfield fire officials say the fire started in one abandoned home, then quickly spread to the other abandoned home on the property.

"We were able to get line placement and protect the structure to the west to us, so there was no damage to that structure, which is occupied," said Battalion Chief Ken Wiggins with the Bakersfield Fire Department.

Code enforcement says both homes will have to be demolished, but thanks to city fire crews the family next door will have a home to sleep in.
