BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The firearm used in a police pursuit last week by the suspects were recovered after a witness called in a location.
A driver, who saw the initiation of the pursuit on Highway 58 in North Edwards, witnessed the suspects throw a "dark color object" from the passenger window onto the shoulder of the highway. The motorist later called the Sheriff’s Office and reported what they had seen.
Deputies from the Mojave Substation went to the area described by the motorist.
After a brief search, deputies found a semi-automatic handgun, including one handgun magazine from the side of the roadway.
During the investigation, information developed that a second firearm was used in the shooting. Believing the second firearm was also ditched in the same area, another search of the area was conducted.
With assistance from the Sheriff’s Office Desert Search and Rescue Team, personnel from the unit found the second firearm.
The investigation into the shooting is still on-going.
