Firefighters race to save South Bakersfield house

Early damage estimates at $30,000

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A South Bakersfield house was damaged by flames early Monday morning.

The fire started at approximately 2:45 a.m. at the home on Geneva Avenue, near South Chester Avenue.

Bakersfield city fire crews tell 23ABC the fire started in one of the home's bedrooms. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze to that portion of the house and had the fire extinguished in about 15 minutes.

Damage is estimated at $30,000. No one was home at the time of the fire, and there are no other reports of injuries.
