First human trafficking conviction in Kern County announced

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The District Attorney announced guilty verdicts in the first human trafficking case in Kern County Monday.
Defendant Jerome Henderson was convicted of two counts of human trafficking involving a 13-year-old victim.
Bakersfield police said Henderson, 22, lured the girl to a local hotel where he forced her to participate in sex acts.
Police said he then tried to take the girl to Sacramento with him with the intent of forcing her to engage in prostitution, but she was able to get away and tell the police.

He faces a maximum of 32 years, 8 months in state prison.
He will be sentenced on September 24.
