BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A former candidate to represent Kern County in the State Senate is jumping in the political ring again.

Republican Andy Vidak has announced his plans to run for the 16th State Senate District Post after local democrat Michael Rubio stepped down.

Vidak made the official announcement on his Facebook page over the weekend.

His name might sound familiar because he unsuccessfully ran against  Democratic Congressman Jim Costa in 2010.

The special primary election is scheduled for May 21 and the special general election is on July 23.
