Former parent council president sentenced for possession of meth

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The former president of a local school parent club was sentenced today for possession of drugs.

Dereck West, 43, was sentenced to three years probation today.

Last month, West took a plea deal where he admitted to being in possession of meth and pled no contest to conspiring to commit a crime.

West was in charge of the Panama Buena Vista Union School District Parent Council and Sing Lum Elementary Parent Club, before being arrested outside his Shafter home in April.
