Friends of Princess Almonidovar, killed in car crash, set up fundraiser with restaurant

Friends: Come to Chili's Monday through Wednesday

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Friends and coworkers of a young woman killed in a car accident are raising money for her family.

Princess Flores Almonidovar, 22, was killed Friday morning when a her car was hit as she was turning at Ming Avenue and New Stine Road.

Almonidovar was working as a Respiratory Therapist at San Joaquin Community Hospital for the past 18 months, according to hospital officials.

Friends organized a fundraiser with Chili's Restaurant on Monday, Jan. 13 through Wednesday, Jan. 15. The restaurant is donating 10 percent of every sale that day with the flyer to the "Remembering a Princess" fund.

There is also a memorial fund set up for Princess' family at Kern Schools Federal Credit Union for Princess Flores Almonidovar, account #42352.

There will also be a car wash on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will be at Maui Pho on Ming Avenue.

Witnesses said Almonidovar had the right of way as she was turning left from Ming Ave. onto New Stine Road. 

Officers said that a vehicle driven by Alex Rubio, age 24, of Bakersfield, was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed when it collided in the intersection with the vehicle driven by Almonidovar.

Almonidovar was killed on impact.

Officers arrested Rubio on charges of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, felony hit and run, felony vehicular manslaughter, and resisting arrest.
