BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Frito-Lay will donate 100 backpacks full of new school supplies to children at the Friendship House Community Center, Friday.
"Anytime they can receive some help to get those supplies for the kids to go back to school..it really really is a big help to the families," said Lois Hannible, program manager with the Friendship House.
This is the first time since the community center opened in the Southeast that children there will receive back-to-school donations.
"Some of the kids that we have in our afterschool program have the torn backpacks and we're trying to get them things that they can put their items in to go to school and just be like the other kids," Hannible said.
The backpacks are being distributed at 4 p.m. to children participating in center's summer program.
