BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Local food banks and homeless shelters are receiving donations this morning thanks to the hard work of volunteers.

Every Saturday, during the citrus season, volunteers from local churches participate in 'The Garden Project' where they pick grapefruits, oranges, and other citrus fruits from several locations around the city.

Volunteers said the people who receive the fruits aren't the only ones rewarded from the project.

The group's goal is to collect 25,000 pounds of fruit this year.
