Local bike riders took advantage of February's full moon by spending the evening outdoors.

It's official title is the 'snow moon' or also known as the 'full hunger moon.' The name comes from the fact that snow is usually the heaviest this time of year in the U.S. But instead of bearing the cold snow, local cyclists spent the evening enjoying a bike ride under pleasant weather and a beautiful view.

"Everybody gets crazy during a full moon so it's just our own way of expressing ourselves," Gene Hanson, a local bike rider, said.

Bike Bakersfield organizes the event on every full moon and gives riders of all skill levels a chance to get some exercise and enjoy the scenery.

"On our way over here, we were just looking back and the moon looked really awesome," Vanessa Gomez, a participant, said.

The event has become a local tradition that is guaranteed to shine some light on the biking community.

"You don't miss it anymore. You come out every time if you can make it. If you can't make it, you're bummed. It's just a fun ride," Hanson said.
