BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A garage was destroyed after a small house fire quickly spread this morning in Bakersfield.

On Feb. 18, at about 8:00 a.m., the Bakersfield Fire Department went to Chester Lane and Olive regarding a house fire.

When firefighters with the BFD arrived, they said the fire quickly spread from a single roof flame to flames that engulfed the detached garage.

Officials said the house was listed as for sale, and that they suspect homeless people were using it for warmth and shelter.

Officers are still investigating to determine the cause of the fire.
