Garces Coach Jim Maples says conversation containing 'colorful language' was illegally recorded

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Garces Memorial High School head football coach Jim Maples released a statement regarding the lawsuit against Kern High School District on his behalf Wednesday.

Attorney Daniel Rodriguez is filing a government claim against the Kern High School District, the Superintendent of Schools and the California Interscholastic Federation.

The claim is from a private discussion that was secretly recorded without the knowledge of Coach Maples.

California law states that both parties must know about the recording of a conversation.

Beyond the audio recording itself, the conversation was circulated among individuals.

Rodriguez says Maples committed no crime. He said Maples used "colorful language" during the conversation that recorded.
