Gas pipeline concerns evacuate 20 homes in Arvin

Officials are asking people to evacuate homes

ARVIN, Calif. - Twenty homes are under voluntary evacuation in Arvin after concerns about old pipelines surfaced Monday evening.

Petro Capital has a pipeline in the area of Nelson St. and Varsity, near Arvin High School.

Residents say they have smelled gas odor for days. Environmental health officials responded and found petroleum-based liquid in old pipelines.

The liquid isn't posing any danger to residents so far—but the Kern County Fire Department and other health officials have called for voluntary evacuations.

Officials have capped off the pipelines.
