Good Samaritans rescue alleged drunk driver trapped in burning car

Driver taken to KMC with minor injuries

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Good Samaritans came to the rescue of a suspected drunk driver and pulled him out of a burning car in East Bakersfield.

The accident happened late Sunday night in East Bakersfield.

According to Sgt. Marvin Casey from the California Highway Patrol, the driver of the pickup truck -- whose identity hasn't been released -- ran a red light at the intersection of Haley St. & Bernard St.

The driver then lost control and slammed into a curb, a fence, and a power pole.

"The vehicle . . . caught fire after the accident, and he was removed by bystanders," said Casey.

The driver was transported to Kern Medical Center with minor injuries.
