Grand opening for cafe with developmentally disabled employees

Workers learn real-life job skills

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Garden of Eatin' promises good food with a purpose as they officially open their doors Friday, November 1st. 

From 11am-2pm you can help the cafe located at 6501 Schirra Court Suite 316 celebrate with Kern County Board of Supervisor members.

Officials said they currently have about a dozen developmentally disabled employees on staff.

The restaurant off Ashe Road and White Lane is a transitional work environment built by parent company New Options that integrates these men and women into the community and workforce.

Owner's told 23ABC they want this job to be a jumping off point for their workers to find full-time employment. 

The business had a soft opening in July.
