Gunman arrested at Kern Medical Center with shotgun

Tried to enter with stolen shotgun

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A crisis has been averted at a local hospital after a man stole a sheriff's shotgun and tried to get inside.

Bakersfield police say a man, identified as Dimas Rodriguez, smashed through the window of a Sheriff's vehicle in the parking lot of Kern Medical Center and stole a shotgun early Wednesday morning.

He allegedly started heading towards the entrance of the hospital when witnesses saw him and ran to tell the officers inside.

Rodriguez was then stopped, ordered to drop his weapon, and arrested.

He is being held on a second degree burglary charge and is due in court Friday.
