BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Hall Ambulance teamed up with Bakersfield high school coaches and trainers for the 8th annual head injuries in student athletes symposium, Thursday.
The symposium held at the Kern High School District office this morning covered prevention, detection and treatment of mild brain injuries.
According to Ron Ostrom, medical director with Hall Ambulance, about 20 percent of the 1.5 million high school and college football players in America suffer some sort of head injury every year.
He suggests that coaches move towards heads up football as an alternative keeping the sport safer for players.
Recent, concussion related lawsuits between the NFL and it's players has garnered attention to the impact and severity of football-related head injuries.
