BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - High-speed rail construction will most likely involve local workers, according to rail officials.
The project is in its early planning stages, so construction companies have not yet been decided on.
Rail officials said the project is expected to boost economic growth for Kern County.
Funding for the first 130 miles of the project has already been covered.
Rail officials said it will be a requirement to hire a certain percentage of workers in areas with low employment, such as the Central Valley.
