Groundbreaking began for a road project in Bakersfield.
The ceremony is took place at St. John's Church on Brundage Lane.
It marks the beginning of the Highway 58 gap closure project which will add a lane on both the westbound and eastbound sides of the highway near Cottonwood Road. Highway 58 will be six lanes wide total.
Construction is expected to take about 15 months to complete and will cost $17.2 million.
