BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Residents from a Hispanic community near the Mercado Latino came out Saturday for a day of free health screenings and heart disease prevention, sponsored by Dignity Health.
The event provided the community with a variety of tests designed to detect early signs of heart disease and prevent the illness before it becomes a serious problem. Services included measuring blood pressure, sugar and cholesterol levels.
Dignity Health representatives also helped spread information about heart disease and how to better take care of your body and avoid the illness. Many people who attended the free screenings were surprised to find they were not as healthy as they thought they were, or were delighted to see pleasant results.
If you would like to find out how healthy you are, Dignity Health is planning on hosting many more free screenings on the first Saturday of every month, at the Mercado Latino from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
