BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - An early-morning fire destroyed a vacant home in South Bakersfield.
The fire started at 2:18 a.m. Thursday morning in the 6900 block of Whisenant Street. Kern County firefighters arrived and found the home completely engulfed in flames. A home next the the burning building was also threatened, according to Kern County fire officials, but firefighters managed to save it.
Kern County fire investigators are looking into the cause of the blaze, although it appears firefighters were recently called to the same home.
"I've actually heard there have been other fires at this residence, and that will be part of the investigation," said Kern County Fire Battalion Chief Sean Fraley.
A 23ABC photographer also noticed large amounts of graffiti spray-painted on the back of the home.
Damage to the home is estimated at $200,000.
