BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Two female veterans will fly to D.C Friday morning, marking a historic moment for Kern County's Honor Flight Organization.
Hundreds of local WWII veterans have made the journey to the capitol to see the memorial they risked their lives for, but before Friday no women had made the journey.
PG&E also helped make this trip possible by donating $10,000 to the cause which paid for 6 veteran's trips.
Honor Flight's mission is to send as many veterans back to D.C. at no cost to them.
According to organizers, this is a very time sensitive operation because 1,000 WWII veterans die each day.
Our local veterans will return Sunday evening starting at 9:30pm at Meadows Field if you'd like to welcome them back home.
