BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Houchin Community Blood Bank is celebrating "Freedom Week" with a military blood drive.
It started today and will end the Saturday before Memorial Day. It's an annual event and anyone who donates blood will also be able to vote for their favorite branch of the armed services.
"It not only benefits people in our own community, but it's a feel good event to make you come out and honor those who have ever served," said Tracy Hunter, Community Development Account Manager with the Houchin Community Blood Bank.
Anyone who donates Thursday May 23rd will also be able to enjoy a free barbeque dinner.
Hunter told 23ABC they expect anywhere from 600 to 700 people to donate during the week. The blood drive will help them keep their shelves stocked going into summer.
