BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The best of the best in the game of darts are in Kern County this weekend to compete for a state championship.
More than 500 people are competing in the Western Region Dart League Finals at the Double Tree Hotel in Bakersfield this Sunday.
"It's actually playing darts, drinking some beer, eating a little amount of food and winning a decent amount of money," said Eric Housden, the tournament director. "That's the best way I can explain it."
Kern Darts, a dart association here in town, has over 30 teams competing for the trophy - and teams from all over the state come to throw those pointed darts for the championship.
Two stroke survivors have been paired up for the competition. Sixty-year-old Howard Santillan is a past champion and is hoping he can bring home a win with his partner, 16-year-old Erica Pommerville.
