When officials arrived they found two of the cars had crashed into each other head-on.

Officials said travelers going northbound should needed to the detour from Jackson to Quality Road, back to Famoso Road.
A medivac helicopter was called to the scene. There is no official word on injuries, but the CHP originally reported at least three people were seriously hurt.
