In-N-Out Burger, which has locations around the western United States and Texas, has announced that it is planning to make the switch to beef not treated with antibiotics.

"Our company is committed to beef that is not raised with antibiotics important to human medicine," vice president of quality for In-N-Out Burger Keith Brazeau told Reuters. "We've asked our suppliers to accelerate their progress towards establishing antibiotic alternatives."

The change comes amidst recent headlines outlining the issues surrounding meat and other foods treated with antibiotics. The problem is this: Although antibiotics are meant to kill bacteria in meat, the potentially infectious material sometimes develops an immunity. Rather than being wiped out by the antibiotic, it can multiply and remain in the food for consumption.
