Independence High students can teach science of energy to elementary students thanks to grant

BAKERSFIELD - The Energy Academy at Independence High School in Bakersfield received a significant donation Thursday.

Pacific Gas and Electric Company presented a $10,000 check as part of the Bright Ideas Grants program.

In February, the high school Energy Academy students spent a day with Lakeside School elementary students.

With direction from their teachers and business industry mentors, the high school students will now teach hands-on energy activities that focus on wind, solar, hydropower, hydrogen fuel cell or the science of energy to Lakeside School teachers.
