BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -
A street and several alleys in Bakersfield received a cleaning that was much needed.
This past week, The Sheriff's Inmate Community Work Crew coordinated with Kern County Waste Management and the Roads Department to clean the vacant lot at the end of South P & Southgate and several alleys in East Bakersfield, near the area of Quincy & West.
Local trash haulers from Price Disposal and Superior Sanitation provided roll off dumpsters and took them to a landfill and recycling center.
The inmate work crew filled three bins with illegally dumped trash, furniture and one bin with illegally dumped vehicle tires. About 27,000 pounds of trash was collected.
The inmate work crew will continue to collaborate with other agencies to target high litter areas within the city and county boundaries.
