After the 2016 season, the Bakersfield Blaze could be no more.
Internet reports suggest Minor League Baseball could announce Monday afternoon the contraction of two teams from the California League - the Blaze and the High Desert Mavericks.
Speculation began about the future of the team after the Seattle Mariners purchased a stake in the Modesto Nuts. The Mariners are currently the major league affiliate of the Blaze and will more than likely stick with the Nuts as their Single A affiliate in the Cal League, thus ending their relationship with the Blaze.
Minor League Baseball is expected to make an announcement sometime Monday afternoon.
Our official position is that we are devastated. The sad emoji would also work. So much history ... gone. https://t.co/zIW2Zh9v0L
