BAKERSFIELD - Two people are arrested in southwest Bakersfield after investigators found the suspects carrying a large quantity of methamphetamine.

The suspects were caught in the Town and Country Village parking lot near Trader Joe’s.

Deputies with the Kern County Sheriff’s office say the suspect took officers on a brief chase after failing to yield during a traffic stop.

It all happened in the area of highway 99 at Rosedale.  Deputies say at one point they lost the vehicle, but did track it down at that Town and Country Village parking lot.  Lt. Dana Albro with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office says the arrest is part of a large-scale narcotic investigation.  Officers arrested two people and say they seized multiple pounds of meth.

“The exact amount is still being determined.  As far as charges, they are still compiling and identifying what charges are going to sought against these individuals,“ she said.

Bakersfield Police Department along with Homeland security officials helped out during the drug bust.  Deputies are expected to release more information Thursday including the amount of meth and the charges these suspects face.
