IOS7 update makes iPhone useless to thieves

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Built in security from the moment you turn on your phone. That's what Apple promises with its newest software update.
There's more to the IOS7 operating system than just its new look. There are now new security features like the iPhone Activation Lock.
"With Apple products there has always been Find My iPhone feature. Unfortunately, there was an easy way you could disable that feature within the phone, but with the IOS7 upgrade they've made it a requirement for you to enter a password to be able to disable Find My iPhone option,” said Shane Swanson, COO of ARRC Technology.
That means thieves aren't able to use or sell your stolen phone.
"This is the first good step. It's not going to deter them at first, but overtime they'll learn there is no market for it and move on to something else."
Making sure your phone has up to date safety features can also help police.
“Safety features definitely add a layer of protection making it easier for that phone to be located if it is stolen. Utilizing GPS technology that has location device can help law enforcement to locate the item as well,” said Michaela Sims, Public Information Officer for the Bakersfield Police Department.
So with the new upgrade comes a new sense of security.
"The more secure we can make these devices the more it will deter criminals not to want to mess with them and protect our data in our phones."
