BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Local grocery shoppers may want to check their receipts because Fresh and Easy has been fined for overcharging its customers.
A judge has fined the owners of the grocery store more than $833,000 for charging more for items than the posted or advertised prices.
The judge also ordered stores to offer customers three dollars off the lowest advertised price if they are overcharged.
If the item is three dollars or less, it will be free.
The company says the mistake was unintentional.
The struggling grocery chain recently announced it may be closing due to poor performance.
There are six fresh and easy stores in Kern County.
