BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A suspect is pronounced dead after sustaining injuries from an officer involved shooting that took place near Center and Descanso Streets, Sunday night.
The Kern County Sheriff's office received a call at approximately 8 p.m. when the suspect was reportedly standing outside a residential area, carrying a kitchen knife on the 2400 block of Center Street near Descanso Street.
When deputies arrived at the scene they confronted the suspect, who then turned around and pretended to walk away before running toward the deputies with the knife.
The deputies shot the suspect, who has been identified as 67-year-old Gregory Johnson. He was then transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the KCSO.
