KCSO: Investigating severed horse's head found on property in Walker Basin

Cause, reason for death not determined

Deputies are investigating an animal cruelty case after a horse's head was found on a property.
On April 26th, at about 6:30 a.m., a deputy from the Kern County Sheriff's Office Kern Valley Substation went to a home regarding a report of a slaughtered animal found on a property in the 41500 block of Gossip Rock St. in Walker Basin.
The deputy contacted the person who called, who had found the remains of severed horse head near a dirt driveway leading to her property earlier that morning.
The deputy documented the remains which were later disposed of. Several area residents were contacted, however at this time it has not been determined how the horse died or under what circumstances the severed head was left on the reporting party's property.
The investigation is ongoing.
