DERBY ACRES, Calif. - Kern County Sheriff's officials said they are investigating an officer-involved shooting at Derby Acres Sunday.
Sheriff's deputies were called out to a home in the 24000 block of Highway 33 at about 12:25 a.m., officials said.
Deputies were told that Steven Cordova, 40, intended suicide, armed with multiple firearms, officials said.
Deputies were able to make contact with Cordova inside the residence. At about 3:35 a.m., Cordova opened the front door and fired several shots, officials said.
Cordova fired numerous shots inside the house, officials said.
SWAT was called to the scene as deputies evacuated surrounding people, officials said.
Deputies engaged Cordova, armed with an assault rifle and handgun, outside of the residence, officials said.
Cordova was shot and taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, officials said.
Officials said no deputies or civilians were hurt.
The incident is under investigation.
Highway 33 was closed between Cloud Avenue and Derby Avenue.
