The Kern County Sheriff's office responded to an officer involved shooting on the 900 block of Starr Court in Lebec Oaks.
Two deputies responded to the scene where a husband and wife were involved in an abusive argument.
Neighbors told 23ABC the couple fought regularly and they often heard arguments coming from the home.
When officials arrived at the home and attempted to talk to the man he became confrontational and pulled out a knife.
One of the sheriffs took out his firearm and shot the man at least once, according to a press release from KCSO.
Medical help was called in, but the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neither of the deputies were injured. Detectives are investigating the shooting and the deputy who fired a shot will be placed on paid administrative leave pending review of the shooting.
The suspect was identified, but his name has not been released as KCSO waits to notify the next of kin.
