BAKERSFIELD - Kern County Animal Services is joining thousands of shelters across the country in pledging to make this a no kill nation for JUST ONE DAY Wednesday.
The JUST ONE DAY event promotes pet adoptions so animals do not have to be put down.
From 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., adoptions from KCAS will be $11.
The Kern County Animal Services Bakersfield Shelter is at 3951 Fruitvale Avenue. Lake Isabella and Mojave Shelters also participating in the $11 reduced adoption fees, but their hours are regular hours.
The fee includes the first set of shots, a microchip, spay or neuter surgery, and a license for eligible dogs.
According to a recent study, the euthanasia rate at the KCAS shelter is down significantly at 34 percent in January and 41 percent in February. Last year, the rates were at 52 percent and 58 percent.
