BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Kern County Community Reading Project is looking for volunteers to become reading coaches for local second-grade students.
The project recruits and trains people as coaches for the spring semester.
According to coordinator Teresa Twisselman, last fall nearly 200 students saw their reading level grow an average of 7 and a half months.
The reading project is holding one of three training sessions for volunteers.
The first training session is Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
All trainings will take place in room 1B at City Centre at 1300 17th Street.
No pre-registration is necessary.
