OILDALE, Calif. - The Kern County District Attorney's Office announced that it is filing charges against Kern County Sheriff Deputy John Swearengin on Friday, Oct. 12.
Swearengin is being charged with 2 counts of manslaughter after hitting two pedestrians with his patrol car.
On Dec. 16, 2011, Deputy Swearengin was driving a patrol car in excess of 80 miles per hour when he struck and killed Daniel Hiler and Crystal Jolley.

Hiler and Jolley were struck by Swearengin's patrol car while crossing Norris Road at 7:30 p.m. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
