BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Kern County Fire has staffed the Alta Sierra seasonal station for the fire season, beginning June 1, ending around Oct. 1.
The closing date of this station may be extended if fire conditions warrant.
This station's crew consists of one engineer and two seasonal firefighters.
While on duty, ready to respond to emergencies, these firefighters will work on a variety of projects that include fuel reduction, fuel break maintenance, station maintenance and training.
Previously, the station and it's volunteer crew served the community full time ending the status in the mid-90s. The station opened again in 2012 for the fire season. The land and buildings are the property of the County of Kern that in the winter months house snow removal equipment.
In the 2012 season, the Alta Sierra seasonal crew responded to: one vehicle fire, one structure fire, one river rescue, two wildland fires, two vehicles rescues, two hazardous conditions, five medical aids, six inter-agency responses, and six lightning related calls.
That station is located at Old State Road and Evans Road.
