BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A graduation ceremony for county fire recruits will be celebrated tonight.
On Friday, June 14, at 6 p.m., recruits from the Kern County Fire Department Academy Class 13-01 will graduate during a ceremony.
The graduation ceremony marks the end of a long four and a half month academy that has tested each individual on various firefighting duties such as wildland fire tactics, rope rescue techniques, and vehicle extrication. These recruits have proven to the department that they are capable of completing these tasks, and are ready for the next step in the training process.
Following graduation, each recruit firefighter will complete their last week of EMT continuing education. Individuals will then be sent to a fire station, where they will live and work with other firefighters for the next three months, learning the different aspects of fire station life and how to perform on emergency incidents.
The graduation ceremony will be held at Liberty High School located at 925 Jewetta Avenue in Bakersfield.
