BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The men and women of Kern County fire station 65 will have a new place to call home on Thursday morning.
Fire Chief Brian Marshall said Wednesday night that their original station 65 on Rosedale Hwy. is outdated and its location makes it difficult to move their trucks in and out of the building because of all the traffic on Rosedale Hwy.
He said in an emergency every second counts so they needed to move to a better location more suitable for their growing crew.
The new and improved station 65 is on Meacham Rd. near Calloway Dr. It sits on a two and a half acre lot with a price tag of five-point-eight million dollars.
Marshall said the driveway leads to a less traveled road that will allow for better response times. He went on to say that their call volume has increased by 85% in the last seven years.
A grand opening will be held Thursday morning. That will officially kick off operations from the new station and the old station will be shut down.
Plans to demolish the old building are in the works.
