Kern County foster youth learn life skills at the 15th annual Independent City today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bakersfield College.
The Department of Human Services "Independent Living Program" helped to prepare and equip the youth with tools they will need to succeed.
Independent City is a day-long event that will teach life skills, college and job schedules, apartment hunting techniques as well as unexpected expenses.
The Independent Living Program serves over 700 youth in foster care and after they exit the foster care system until they turn 21.
The event will take place at BC in teh Math and Science Buildings and at the Forum.
