Kern County honor flight collecting donations to send 80 WWII vets to see memorial in Washington DC

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Kern County honor flight is collecting donations in order to take 80 local World War II veterans to Washington D.C.

Veterans and volunteers will be taking donations Thursday from 5 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Veteran's memorial in downtown Bakersfield and in the park-lot between Chuy's and Roadhouse Grill on Rosedale Highway.

All the money will go towards flying veterans to see the World War II memorial in November.

"Time is of the essence," said Lili Marsh with the Kern County Honor Flight. "So much happens to them during the winter months and sometimes we call people but the veteran has just passed away."

The honor flight is hoping to raise $125,000 to pay for these veterans to fly in November.

"You were on the go the whole time and although everybody was tired everybody was ready to go for the next day," said Earl Price, a Korean War veteran who flew on the honor flight a year ago.

The Honor Flight is also looking for veterans to get on board for their November flight. If you or someone you know is interested in attending the honor flight visit, honor flight
