California Chrome, a specially bred California horse with ties to Kern County, has officially been named the winner of the 140th Kentucky Derby.
The winner and his jockey, Victor Ezpinosa, finished the 1 1/4 miles race coming in at 2:03.66.
This was the second Derby win for Ezpinosa, but a proud and first for California Chrome and his owners, Perry Martin and Steve Coburn.
California Chrome won over contender Samraat by 1 3/4 lengths.
