SHAFTER, Calif. - Kern County officials held an event Thursday to help employ residents in a town where the unemployment rate sits at just over 22 percent.
The Department of Health and Human Services held a Jobfest in Shafter with just under 40 companies looking to fill 630 open positions.
The Jobfest was at the Shafter Veterans Hall and 423 job seekers attended, according to the Kern County Department of Human Services.
"I have been looking for a job for quite awhile, I have been a stay-at-home mom for the past year, so now I am trying to get back into the work field," said Veronica Petire.
Many people walked away with a new job and many have interviews to look forward to.
The Taft JobFest will take place on Wednesday, April 30. The Bakersfield JobFest will take place on Tuesday, May 13, and the Lake Isabella JobFest will take place on Wednesday, May 14.
