Kern County residents, businesses enjoying early spring weather

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - It's not just the birds and the bees who are enjoying these unseasonably warm temperatures.

Spring doesn't officially start until this Thursday, March 20 but local businesses have been cashing in on spring-like weather for weeks.

Jere White, owner of White Florist in Bakersfield, said business is booming thanks to Mother Nature.

"There's been an explosion in people out here in the last three months and it's been nice because it's easy to get out, plants are doing well and people really enjoy it," White said.

Stan Harper, owner of Harper Pools in Bakersfield, said his phones were ringing off the hook when temperatures soared up to 85 degrees this past weekend.

"We definitely got calls earlier this year. The weather has gotten warmer and people are out driving more and it just creates interest," Harper said.

According to the NOAA, California is coming off the warmest winter on record.
