BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - For the first time in Kern County, dozens of local school bus drivers got the chance to show off their driving skills Saturday afternoon.

They competed in a training obstacle course with seven different events.

Drivers had to parallel park and make several turns with obstacles.

They also had to take a written test, to test their knowledge.

The goal of the days event was to practice safe driving.

The bus drivers said they used the local competition as a practice for their next course in Apple Valley.

Those that qualified are eligible for the state championships.
