Kern County Sheriff's Department looking for suspect accused of shooting man in road rage incident

The incident happened on Hwy 99

DELANO, Calif. - The Kern County Sheriff's Department is investigating a road rage incident that left one person wounded on Highway 99 in Delano.

According to deputies, they were sent to Kern Medical Center Friday afternoon to investigate a shooting. 

The victim, Oscar Rios, 19, of Canoga Park had suffered gunshot wounds to his arm and leg, deputies said. 

His injuries were not life threatening. 

Deputies said, it all started around 2:45 p.m. when Rios was driving northbound on Hwy 99 in Delano.

According to officials, that is when the driver of a silver van, possibly a Mercury, with a black and white hood started to drive aggressively. 

A road rage type of incident ensued between the driver of the van and Rios. 

Deputies said, the driver of the van shot at Rios one time, striking him in the his arm and leg.  

The driver of the van was last seen exiting the freeway in Delano and has not been identified at this time. 

Police described the driver of the van as a heavy set Hispanic man with a beard.  There was at least one female passenger in the van at the time of the shooting.
